At Argonide, we’re proud of the quality and workmanship that goes into every filter leaving our factory. Having invented and patented this nanoalumina technology, it has given us years of experience in working with the filter media and in optimizing solutions for our customers.
We’ve incorporated this experience in the engineering, design and manufacture of our varied lines of NanoCeram® filter cartridges. We have worked hard to optimize each filter for flow rate, efficiency, capacity and reliability.

As part of these efforts, Argonide maintains a Class II bio lab as well as a full R&D laboratory. This enables us to test internally for bacteria and virus reduction rates along with a myriad of other water filtration goals. We also have the ability to “pre-test” to certain NSF/ANSI Standards at a fraction of what the national laboratories charge.

Argonide has significant capability for internal testing of finished filter cartridges, filter discs or experimental hand-sheets. A further internal activity is for comparison of our filters to competitors. Handsheets (12” x 12”) can be formulated on a customized basis. For instance, we have extensive experience in inclusion of ATS, a soluble lead sorbent, into our media.

[toggle title=”Bacteria” open=”false” icon=”dfd-icon-right_2″]Argonide is capable of testing media and cartridges with a variety of bacteria, including E coli, Klebsiella Terrigena (often used in EPA testing protocols), Bacillus subtilis (a simulant for anthrax), and for B. diminuta, amongst the smallest of the bacteria.[/toggle]
[toggle title=”Viruses” open=”false” icon=”dfd-icon-right_2″]Argonide tests for virus using MS2, which is routinely used in the industry as a simulant for viruses. MS2 is actually a bacteriophage with a particle size of 27 nm. Given its small size, it would simulate virus that would be among the most difficult to filter.[/toggle]

The focus on silver is to assure that any silver that might be added for bacteriastatic control is within drinking water guidelines.[/toggle]

[toggle title=”Organics” open=”false” icon=”dfd-icon-right_2″]Argonide has developed a method for VOC testing and evaluation using toluene as a surrogate. Although not based on chloroform which is used in the VOC specification, toluene is a simulant for virtually all of the others.[/toggle]
[toggle title=”Particulates” open=”false” icon=”dfd-icon-right_2″]Argonide can test for turbidity (NTU or Nephelometric Turbidity Units) and SDI (silt density index). SDI is a more sensitive measure of particulate than NTU.[/toggle]
[toggle title=”Mechanical” open=”false” icon=”dfd-icon-right_2″]Experimental handsheets can be tested for mechanical strength both on a wet and dry basis using TAPPI Test Method T-494.[/toggle]

Argonide cannot certify its own product, so the customer would eventually need to go to a third party for validation of data.
The benefit to our customer is the cost savings gained by having Argonide do the initial testing up front; with final testing (and possible certification) later accomplished by a third party laboratory.
This can mitigate potentially unnecessary testing costs for products that may not meet the customer’s expectations prior to the much more expensive and time consuming processes from most third party laboratories.
